The RGS-IBG Annual International Conference 2020 will be held the Royal Geographical Society in London, from Tuesday 1st to Friday 4th September 2020.
This three-day conference attracts over 1,800 geographers and is a fantastic way to discover exciting research in all areas of the discipline and to meet, network, and socialise with researchers from all over the world.
The Chair’s theme for the conference is borders, borderlands and bordering, and has been selected by Professor Uma Kothari (University of Manchester, UK). More information about the conference and the Chair’s theme can be found via this link. The conference organisers welcome sessions and paper submissions which engage directly with the conference theme, as well as other proposals which focus on wider subject areas in geography. The RGS-IBG Postgraduate Forum has sponsored some vibrant, creative and interesting sessions at previous conferences, and look forward to doing so again for AC2020.
Keep up-to-date with conference events on the RGS-IBG website and on Twitter using the hashtag #RGSIBG20.

The Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) Postgraduate Forum (RGS-PGF) invites proposals for sponsored/co-sponsored sessions for the RGS-IBG Annual International Conference 2020. The 2020 conference will be held at the RGS-IBG in London from Wednesday 2nd September to Friday 4th September 2020, with pre-conference events taking place on Tuesday 1st September. It will be chaired by Professor Uma Kothari, from the University of Manchester, with the focus being on ‘Borders, borderlands and bordering’. More information can be found at:
In keeping with the ethos of the Postgraduate Forum we would particularly welcome different or non-standard, highly interactive sessions that are of equal benefit to the audience and the presenter. The RGS-PGF can sponsor up to a maximum of 12 sessions; each session lasts 1 hour and 40 minutes. If you are interested in sponsorship for a session, please send proposals to Faye Shortland (FLS318@student.bham.ac.uk) and Amy Walker (firstname.lastname@example.org) by 10th January 2020.
Proposals should include:
I. Title of session;
II. Name of co-sponsoring groups (if applicable);
III. Name, affiliation, and contact details for session convenors;
IV. Abstract outlining scope of session (max 300 words, excl. references);
V. Indication of preferred organisation of session (the more creative the better);
VI. Indication of any non-standard arrangements.
The Postgraduate Forum encourages postgraduates to propose sessions. This is a great opportunity to organise a session and the Postgraduate Forum is happy to provide help with the organisation of the sessions should it be required.
The full guidelines for organising sessions can be found at:
Any questions should be directed to Faye Shortland (email@example.com) and Amy Walker (firstname.lastname@example.org). We will confirm whether we can sponsor your session by mid-January 2020. If your session is accepted for sponsorship you must secure participants and complete the required paperwork by 14th February 2020 at the latest (preferably earlier).
We look forward to receiving your session proposals.
