The RGS-IBG Annual International Conference 2022 will be held at Newcastle University, with in-person, online, and hybrid ways to participate, from from Tuesday 30 August to Friday 2 September 2022. More information is available on the conference website.

This three-day conference regulary attracts over 2,000 geographers and is a fantastic way to discover exciting research in all areas of the discipline and to meet, network, and socialise with researchers from all over the world.

The Chair’s theme for the 2022 Annual International Conference is Geographies Beyond Recovery. The theme was selected by the Chair of conference, Professor Rachel Pain (Newcastle University, UK), in conversation with the Society’s Research Groups and with the Research and Higher Education Committee.

More information about the conference and the Chair’s theme can be found at Geographies Beyond Recovery. The conference organisers welcome submissions for the conference programme which engage directly with this theme, as well as others focusing on all areas of geography.

This year’s RGD-IBG Annual International Conference will not be ‘business as usual’ given everything that has happened over the last two years, from COVID-19 to Black Lives Matter, and from COP26 to concerns about cultures and behaviour within disciplinary spaces. The conference organisers will be thinking widely and expansively about sustainability, inclusivity and accessibility in and around the conference and our broader activities with Research Groups and the geographical community. Please see the chair’s statement on inclusivity and safety.

Keep up-to-date with conference events on the RGS-IBG website.
