Background

The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) (RGS-IBG / the Society) advances and promotes knowledge and understanding of the world around us. It is a charity with a broad-based membership who support the Society’s mission and aims.  The Postgraduate Forum is a branch of the Society.

Membership is open to geographers and all others with an interest in peoples, places, cultures and environments of our world. Members include those in Geography-related professions; academics, researchers and teachers; sixth form, undergraduate and postgraduate students; those wishing to keep in touch with Geography; and those with a wider interest in the human and physical environment, travel and exploration. The 1995 merger between the Royal Geographical Society and the Institute of British Geographers created the largest and most vigorous geographical society in Europe.

The Society is governed by a democratically elected Council and encourages Fellows to become involved. The Chair of the Postgraduate Forum is a member of Council.

If you have a lively interest in Geography and in the world about you, then consider joining the RGS-IBG. The Society welcomes applications from all who wish to support its aims and participate in its activities from anywhere in the world, and Postgraduate Fellowship has a special discounted rate.
